An artist named Marina Abramović is performing in the Museum of Modern Art, in an installation called The Artist is Present, where she sits in a chair all day, from the museum’s opening to closing. Apparently, that’s all she does, sit in a chair, staring straight ahead, which is apparently art.
Well, shit. I’ve been sitting in a chair at my job, staring blankly, from opening to closing, every weekday for years. I wouldn’t call it art, but I think it could be considered an art form since I haven’t been fired yet.
Some photos of the artist and museum visitors, who are allowed to take turns sitting across from her. Interestingly, a number of them sitting there watching her sit there start crying.
If you came and sat at my job and stared at me sitting and staring at my job, I don’t know if you’d start crying. I might, but you probably wouldn’t.
Crying? what the hell is that about?
I’d pay good money to sit across from you and bawl like a man-child, Chris. Real good money.
There’s a similar art project (or whatever you call it) here in Sweden. But I think ours is better because it consisted of a naked chick reading books in a red box all day. And no, I haven’t seen it myself.
Art can be anything. Hell, I remember when I was 10 and it was a day where people could tour the museums around Houston for free – and we needed a break after seeing the Museum of Natural Science and Museum of Fine Art, so we went into the least occupied Museum – the Museum of Contemporary Arts.
I swear,
the crap that people pass off asart is astounding. A series of cups filled with paint attached to a board. A torn up couch. WTF?Chicago Museum of Art. Contemporary exhibit. A frame. Not a nicely decorated frame. No painting, Just a frame. Made my brain want to explode.

Then there’s THIS caption on one of the photos: “Tehching Hsieh sits with Marina Abramović during her performance. Hsieh is also a pioneering performance artist who is well-known for his own durational performances, such as Cage Piece (1978-79), in which he spent one year locked inside a cage constructed in his Hudson Street loft in New York City.”
OK so uhhhh, what? So this guy put a cage in his loft and spent a year in it, and that’s art? That’s ART? Well this makes me wonder if he allowed the public into his home that year to see him “perform?” WOW, MAN!
